Good afternoon everyone. I just wanted to take some time and give an update on the current runoff/snowmelt, my calendar and some other things!
Let’s start with the runoff. Currently the Salt river is outside of its banks and flooding parts of the valley. This was expected with the high level of snow this winter. It’s setting up to be a great summer for water and we shouldn’t have to worry as much about daytime temperatures or when to be on/off the water. This could have an impact on when we can start fishing the river, but there is no way to be certain of this without a little more time passing and seeing what the weather does. I will be able to make trips over to the Green river earlier if the Salt isn’t quite ready yet.
As for my calendar, it’s filling up, slowly but surely! The month of July, only has a handful of days left. Let me know what dates you are thinking and we will get you going. August has started to fill, but I’m sure that will pick up more as we get closer to summer and people start to finalize their plans. I just recommend to reach out as soon as you can as I’ll start to get more days filled the closer we get to go time!
This year I’ll have some new gear as well as a new boat! A few new rods from Temple Fork Outfitters should prove to be fish catching machines. The new boat is the same model as my old Hyde Montana Skiff, but I got some new colors and a few upgrades to the interior to make it even comfier. I know everyone loved the pink cooler, but unfortunately yeti doesn’t currently offer that color so we went with fire engine red. Either way, it’ll keep the drinks cold.
I have to say this lightly, because I have no way to be sure and no telling what the river or the fish will do BUT the last time I saw this much snow in the valley, it gave the river a lot more water for the summer. This can mean a lot of things to provide a much healthier river. Lower daily water temps, and a more consistent temp, can lead to much more active, healthier fish. It would also help the hatches a ton and provide ample bug life. Again this is all speculation, but it’s a very educated guess.
Hope everyone is doing well! Go Bills!
