Week 15 – Fishings Great, Calendars Empty

August 26th, 2020

This summer has been non stop and the fishing never seems to shut down. We are having great days and seeing more and more big fish coming up for the hoppers. My calendar is pretty wide open for the next few weeks. Come catch some of these fish before the cold sets in, theres only a few more weeks!

Rivers/Water Update
The Salt continues to produce all kinds of fish. In a normal day we are catching a lot of cutthroat, white fish, and brown trout. The dry dropper has been the go to rig and working great. Sometime around the middle of the day we are switching to the hoppers as they are starting to appear around the river and making a bunch of noise. The fish are will to take the big piece of protein. The most common question I’m getting is if the heat is affecting the Salt. The river has a bunch of springs that feed it and those keep it cool even on the hottest of days so these fish are energetic and not in danger of too high of water temps. The Snake is still fishing great. The mid day water temps are finally at a safe level and should continue to have that trend moving into September. Look for fish in the shallower faster water as they will be looking for oxygen. Again fish the dry droppers and try to target fish the PMD’s. We should start seeing mahoganies soon and the fall stonefly.

Availability
I have been pretty slow this week and I’m assuming it has to do with the kids returning to school as I usually get slow this week every year. The break has been nice but I’m ready to get back to it. Next week is wide open and the fishing is hot. Give me a call.
